Khmer Temple, Can Tho, Vietnam

This part of the Mekong delta is in Vietnam, but still fairly close to the border with Cambodia. Historically, there has been a Khmer presence in this area, which can be seen in some temples around some of the larger cities.

I walked up the steps to the second floor of this temple. From the ground floor it looked fairly similar to others that I had seen. When I reached the second floor balcony I was greeted by the incongruous site of this old deck chair with it's nylon webbing slowly rotting away. As I looked around the second floor you could very much tell that it was left to the elements and received little up-keep - a contrast to the first floor which was painted in gold and covered in ornate decoration.
