Beijing as always been famous in the eyes of travellers for its fleets of bicycles. My trip there about about a month ago exposed me to them. The number of bikes, and electric motorcycles, made the streets much quieter than I expected. There was less noise in the back streets than one would hear in other cities such as Seoul, Hanoi, or Ho Chi Minh. Walking through one hutong area I cam across this bicycle leaning against a wall. The black square is covering up some phrase painted on the wall. Along the alleyway there were numerous such squares, some with letter strokes peeking out behind them.

it's funny how the simplest of things can catch our eyes and make for impressive photos... great capture! i really like the extra information about censor squares...

Perfect capture. This is a lovely composition--and a disturbing one, too!

I like this shot because the black square lends an modernist "art" flavor to the image.
